All figures come from our own import runs: the daily zone file comparison, the registries' drop lists and the RDAP lookups. They relate exclusively to the extensions we monitor.

Deleted domains per day

Weekends are regularly lower: registrars process cancellations mainly on working days, and many registries handle deletions in batches.

How these figures come about

For every extension we have zone file access to, we download the complete inventory every day and compare it with the previous day. Every name that has disappeared goes into the database as a candidate. Some of these candidates have merely changed nameservers – only the RDAP lookup shows whether a deletion really happened.

This is why the "deleted per day" figure is systematically higher than the number of domains that actually become available in the end. We still report it that way, because it describes the raw pool the later releases are drawn from.
